Towards the end of 2018, we came across the news of Apple planning to launch its TV service. Adding more weight to the news, Apple CEO Tim Cook has confirmed that the company will announce “new services” this year.
In an exclusive interview with Jim Cramer on CNBC’s Mad Money, Tim Cook said, “You will see us announce new services this year. There will more things coming.”
While he refused from spelling out what exactly it would kind of service it would be, he did mention that “they’ll be material over time.”
Apart from the streaming service, which is purported to offer original content like Netflix, there are reports that the subscription service would combine music, videos, and news too.
Meanwhile, at CES 2019, there have been a series of surprise announcements from TV makers regarding Apple’s AirPlay 2 support and Homekit features.
With these features, users can cast content directly from their iPhone, iPad, and Mac to smart TVs, which run on other operating systems from rivals like Google and Samsung.
In fact, Samsung has announced that its latest TVs will come with a support for iTunes to let you access movies and TV shows there as well.
So, it isn’t far fetched to think that Apple is paving its way through hardware manufacturers for its upcoming TV service. But even if the TV service is one of the “services” Cook mentioned, we have no idea what other services Apple has planned.
Apart from services, Tim Cook also revealed plans of contributing to the health sector in 2019.
Apple has already made a big push into the health and fitness industry through its step counting and heart rate tracking features on Apple Watch; we are yet to see what else the Cupertino has in store for us.
