CBSE To Add Artificial Intelligence As A Subject In Classes 8, 9, 10 In India

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to introduce Artificial Intelligence (AI) as an optional subject for classes 8th, 9th, and 10th in India, starting the next academic session.

The plan to introduce AI as a subject comes with an aim of making the students acquainted with technology and further improve their technical aptitude and knowledge.

The decision was taken in the recent meeting of the board and was incepted during a session that took place in NITI Ayog.

A member of CBSE stated, “Syllabus for the new subject would be drafted for all the three classes. If required, the board will also help in the capacity building of schools for the teaching-learning of the new subject from the next academic session.”

Artificial Intelligence as a subject will be included on the vocational front of the subjects.

For the uninitiated, Artificial Intelligence is the ability of a machine to perform tasks and understand concepts in a manner that resembles human mannerism.

Since the CBSE has 20,299 schools running under the board in India along with 220 schools in 25 other countries, this decision is surely going to benefit thousands of children.

We have seen AI making headlines in the tech world and incorporating the same in education could add a great boost to the vast concept of technology in budding minds.

It remains to be seen how the students respond to AI as a subject or make use of it and how successful the whole campaign proves to be.
