DuckDuckGo Will Use Apple Maps For Location Related Queries

DuckDuckGo is knowns as one of the best Google Search alternatives because it values user privacy. Now, the search engine is adding a partner to build on that reputation — Apple.

The privacy-focused search engine has announced it will use Apple’s MapKit JS framework, i.e., Apple Maps to power address-related searches. DuckDuckGo users on mobile and desktop can use the Apple Maps integration right away.

From now on, the search engine will serve addresses, businesses, geographical locations, and nearby places via Apple Maps. Similar to what we see in Google Maps, typing a maps-related keyword in the search bar will bring up Maps module on the right-hand side of the window.

In a blog post, the company said: “We can now offer users improved address searches, additional visual features, enhanced satellite imagery, and continually updated maps.”

Discussing DuckDuckGo’s privacy terms, the search engine also mentioned how it does not send any private information of a user to Apple or any other third-party, for that matter.

Earlier, DucukDuckGo used a bunch of alternatives for providing maps services such as Here Maps, Bing and Google Maps. However, it mostly relied on maps service provided by Bing. Now that will change will the integration of Apple Maps.

Just like DuckDuckGo, privacy has been a major focus area for Apple too. Recently, the Cupertino even took a dig at Amazon and Google‘s privacy policies at the CES 2019.
