A Google I/O protest took place at the ongoing developer conference in Mountain View, California. The tech giant is no stranger to controversies, but the latest one takes things sky-high, literally. As reported by TechCrunch, a plane flew over the amphitheater as the Google I/O conference was underway.
Over the years, Google has seen several protestors outside their venues, usually in the form of a crowd holding banners. However, the plane flying over the annual Google developer conference is a first.
Google I/O 2019 Protest
The plane was flying a banner that read — ‘Google control is not privacy #savelocalnews.’ The message suggests that the protesters were obviously linked to the local journalists and news publications.
Organizing a plane to protest against Google seems like an expensive endeavor. So, it can be speculated that the people involved had a good amount of resources to spare to spread their message.

The famous Google Search now uses featured snippets to try to answer users’ queries in paragraphs. It is useful for simple queries, however, the search engine also answers politically sensitive questions in just four paragraphs. Something that even the subject experts would like to avoid.
However, the current Google I/O is so full of innovations and machine learning capabilities that it feels part-exciting and sadly part-scary. My only hope is that one day people protesting at these events don’t get to say ‘I told you so.’
