Xiaomi Smartphones Will Get More Expensive, Says CEO Lei Jun

Ever since Xiaomi entered the mobile world, it has popularized as a company offering high-end specs at affordable prices, competing against the likes of Samsung and OnePlus. However, this might change soon, as hinted by CEO Lei Jun.

As per Technode, Xiaomi is soon to make its smartphones a little expensive to change its reputation as a company that produces inexpensive hardware.

Lei said, “Actually, we want to get rid of this reputation that our phones cost less than RMB 2,000. We want to invest more and make better products.

The report further suggests that the latest Mi 9 was the company’s last device to be priced under CNY 3,000 and the upcoming smartphones will get slightly more expensive but not too expensive.

It would be interesting to see how the change in Xiaomi’s pricing strategies will impact the company as a whole.

Xiaomi’s plan to change its reputation could backfire as cheap hardware is the USP of the company. Also, we cannot ignore the fact that the company has managed to gain a good amount of user base in India as well as China so far which has resulted in many loyal users.
